Sell/Buy/Date is a hybrid documentary/narrative film that follows Tony Award-winning performer and comedian Sarah Jones. Meryl Streep serves as the film’s executive producer. Sarah, who is of mixed-race African American descent and lives in the United States, investigates her own personal connection to one of the most misunderstood issues in our contemporary culture: the sex industry, as well as the surprisingly diverse range of people whose lives it touches, alongside the multicultural characters for which she is known. This documentary explores the topic, “How can we as a society have a healthy relationship to sex, power, race, and our economy, without exploiting people or stigmatizing them?” through a series of interviews and even cameos by celebrities. The purpose of this exercise is to bring attention to the human faces and voices that are at the heart of this topic.
